Part 39 : Driving Wars
Despite being out of sync with the rest of the Blog this predates back a while to when I was working on Driving Wars. On the show I was working as DIT ensuring that the data for the shoot was backup and safe on 2 copies.
The show has contestants driving a car which controls another car via remote control on a course challenge out in the field. The car is hooked up with heaps of cameras which live feed back to massive monitors. Its the modern equivalent of a real life computer racing game. I sooo want to do it, even going out and buying a crappy car just to smash up on the jump.
The shoots were long days and I spent a lot of time transferring not that much data because I had limitations based off the transfer speeds of the media peripherals / cards and the amount of cards that I had to transfer. The difference between this shoot and say a red shoot is that the red shoot has one or maybe 2 large storage devices. So you transfer it as fast as you can with only one transfer setup. This shoot had up to 40 transfer setups for each piece of data. The best part of the shoot as always was working with the people and being able to stay at the hotel and hit up the driving range on our day off.
